COURSE DESCRIPTION

Small workplace emergencies may include such incidents as a small fire that can be controlled using a nearby fire extinguisher; or a chemical spill that can be controlled using workplace personal protective clothing and equipment, and a small spill kit.

Sets offers two short courses, one addressing a possible fire emergency and the other to deal with small chemical spills.

The fire extinguisher course looks at the following:

  • What is fire
  • How fire can spread
  • How it can be extinguished
  • Classifications of fire
  • Firefighting equipment including the practical use
  • Workplace procedures for fire

The small spill course looks at the following:

    • Knowledge of the types of spill and the effect they have on the environment
    • Understanding of the legal framework and implications regarding spills

 

  • Understanding of incident management procedures
  • Ability to work as a team to safely manage spill incidents
  • spill procedures and equipment on site
